Today, I am proud to witness the handing over of the AV equipments donated by Tedin to the ACS primary school. Together with us is Bert Tan from class of 85 who took all the photos below. We were greeted by the headmaster Mr. Wong Poh Sim and a couple of teachers. The pupils were usher to the hall where Tedin was asked to make a speech. Poor fella, got a hard time getting a bunch of kids to understand what was happening. Most of them were quite blur and was too playful to be observing what's going on. Towards the end, it was such a relieve when those restless souls sang the school song before dispersing to their respective classes. I am amazed by the composition of the pupils which is a good mix of different races studying together not like the Chinese school that I send my children to.
Overall, it's an eye opener. It really brought back good memories from our formative years in primary. In some ways the pupils are better off. They have computers, lcd projectors and OHP as teaching aids. They even have Chinese class. Will never be demoted as there is only one class per standard. But on the other hand, they will be deprived of the motivation as no matter how you fail, you will always be in A class. What a joke. Imagine we have 5 classes during our time, A-E. Below is a picture showing 2 old chairs. Look how small were back then. Then there is the old bell and piano. Like Bert says the same hall seems smaller, obviously he was comparing it with our sizes then and now. Did you notice the bicycle, It's the prize for the top scorer UPSR 2009. Now whose brilliant idea was that?
Actually, the school is not that poor. It was allocated RM80,000.00 from Najib's 1st. stimulus package. The toilet is clean with mosaic flooring, brightly lighted and all the cubicles have new pvc doors; a far cry from our yesteryears where we dreaded that haunted place which was dark, and filthy with cement rendered floor, and most of the time, the wooden doors are jammed and some were even locked from the inside..ahhhh must be ghost. The clay roof tiles of the whole block where the office was situated right up to the (haunted) toilet was replaced by ardex roof.
Finally, although the enrollment is only about 168, It's hope that this generous offer by Tedin will go a long way to help the students of this school. Even if one or two benefited from his selfless contribution, it's still worthwhile. These are children who will be contributing to society to national building, yes they are the future. Ad Astra Per Aspera.
Hi all, I remember we used to have benches in the hall, right? Now have to sit on floor? Anyway, thanks guys for helping the kids. Sure brings back great memories. Like they said, when you get older, the short term memory is dodgy but the long term memories come flooding back. Cheers. Ray TK Ong - MACSian74
Thanks Mak for clarifying hehe. That little guy was 'assigned' to shoot the video with my phone. I will upload it in youtube tonight and you may use it for the website. Great posting Mak.
